Keck AO observations of Io in and out of eclipse We present adaptive optics (AO) observations of Io taken with the W.M.Keck II telescope on 18 December 2001 (UT) before the satellite wentinto eclipse, and while it was in Jupiter's shadow. Making these kind ofIo-in-eclipse observations, as well as the associated data reduction andanalysis are challenging; hence one focus of the paper is to explain themethods and tools used for these data sets. For the sunlit images Ioitself was used as the wavefront reference source, while nearby Ganymedewas used as reference `star' when Io was in eclipse. Observations wereobtained in K'-, L'-, and M-bands. The sunlit images have beendeconvolved using MISTRAL. The Io-in-eclipse data were deconvolved withIDAC and MISTRAL. The former gives better results, both in absolutephotometry and in matching the original images. We determined the fluxdensities of the hot spots from the original Io-in-eclipse data withStarFinder, as well as from the deconvolved images by integrating theintensity over the relevant areas. We determined the highlyanisoplanatic PSF via a FFT method from the original data, and used thisin StarFinder and as a starting PSF for IDAC and MISTRAL. We derivedtemperatures and areal coverage of all 19 spots detected in both K'- andL'-band images of Io-in-eclipse. We also determined temperatures andareal coverage of the hot spots visible on the L'- and M-band images ofsunlit Io. Most volcanoes contain a compact hot `core' (<~10km2 at 600-800 K) within a larger area at lower temperatures(e.g., ~102-104 km2 at 300-500 K). Thetotal heat flow contributed by these active volcanoes is 0.2Wm-2, ~8% of the average global heat flow measured at 5-20μm by Veeder et al. [J. Geophys. Res. 99 (1994) 17095].
| Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue. We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.
| H-beta photometry of northern intermediate galactic latitude early-type stars and galactic structure away from the plane Photoelectric H-beta photometry is presented for 255 early-type stars atintermediate galactic latitudes. Absolute magnitudes and distances arederived for the more luminous stars. Those with visual magnitudes lessthan or equal to 2.5 and at distances of up to 1 kpc from the galacticplane may follow the spiral structure in the plane.
